Talking ‘Bout My Generation

Bobby Sherman

My generation was pretty good at obsessing over boys. Not only did we have Bobby Sherman’s face to decorate our lunch boxes and posters, we also obsessed about all the guys from The Monkees. If you ask any lady who you know who is from my age group, who their favorite Monkee was, you will get many different answers. Each Monkee had their own cuteness about them, and the fans have a favorite for a different reason which does not include just being cute.

The Partridge Family was on TV back in my day, and a lot of my friends thought that David Cassidy was really cute.   We didn’t say “hot” back then.

Then there was Donny Osmond,

Little Joe Cartwright from Bonanza, also known as Michael Landon,

and the only reason I ever watched football:  Joe Namath.

Maybe I am out of the loop, but it seems like something is not right here.  Things change, and maybe it’s better for girls to not have cute guys to watch on fun TV shows.  I bet poster sales are way down now from when I was a teen.

  1. One of my best friends had a subscription to Tiger Beat magazine where she kept up on all these guys. I remember thinking how extravagant that subscription seemed!

  2. I had a crush on Donny Osmond by the time I was 5 years old! Later on, it was Shaun Cassidy.

I think you’re right. The girls don’t have cute, wholesome boys to crush on anymore. Justin Bieber just doesn’t seem all that wholesome to me.

  3. You must be from my generation! I think girls obsessabout boys as much as ever; just the names are different and girls might be more into sports figueres nowadays. Though maybe there aren’t as many teen groups singing on TV — we got rid of our Tv back in 1975 and I haven’t kept track.

  4. Oh my – this brings back memories! I was a huge Donny Osmond fan – I had a gigantic picture of him covering my bedroom wall when I was a teeny-bopper! I loved David Cassidy, too! (Eek – did I say that out loud?) 😉
Thanks for visiting my blog – so happy I found yours as a result!

  5. We’re clearly from the same generation. My bedroom walls were decorated in Donny Osmond, Bobby Sherman and David Cassidy. It makes me cringe to say this, but I still remember the lyrics to some of those songs: I listened to them enough!

    • I know what you mean about knowing the words to all those old songs. Now they call them oldies. They were oldies, but goodies. Thanks for stopping by for a visit!
